Shai Dancer

32"x 48"

In Ghana, every year, hundreds of Shai women undergo a complex initiation process, known as the Dipo, that marks their transition from girlhood to womanhood. They dance the steps of the Klama, a slow dance using intricate movements of the hands and feet, learned during their first weeek in seclusion.
