Revealing Different Worlds Within
Exhibition Saint Denis Reunion Island, March
2000
The drawings
Marie-Denise Douyon unveils
for the first time during this exhibition, eight sketches
of women created from a live model. The mediator of techniques
openly reveals the state of the artist's mind. Is it an illusion,
or a communion with the artist's soul, or have we approached
her core?
These eight feminine
figures, which are actually one, represent the woman as a
pillar, a veritable ode to life. Fluctuating between slender
fragility and a haughty rebellion, each carries in herself
a plenitude for the human race, during moments of vulnerability,
nostalgia or abandonment, with nothing to spare. This is what
confers an absolute nobility to them, always with a glow of
tender glance accented by the use of pastels (in a blue monochrome)
and the purity of the live drawing, that melts in an exquisite
and ultimate gesture.
